The Schuyler-Hamilton House Presents Real Life Hamilton Love Story
"The Love Story of Betsy Schuyler and Alexander Hamilton" tour is on Aug. 13 at 10 a.m.
Hamilton was the hottest ticket on Broadway this past spring, and now Morristown residents can get a glimpse at the real life love story between Alexander Hamilton and Betsy Schuyler that started right here in Morristown.
Pat Sanftner of the Schuyler-Hamilton House, owned by the Daughters of the American Revolution, will give a presentation called “The Love Story of Betsy Schuyler and Alexander Hamilton” on Aug. 13 at 10 a.m.
The Schuyler-Hamilton House was owned by Dr. Jabez Campfield in 1760, according to morristourism.org. Campfield was a surgeon for Colonel Oliver Spencer. Campfield allowed Dr. John Cochran, General George Washington’s personal physician, to live at his house.

Cochran’s wife was the sister of General Philip Schuyler, who’s niece, Betsy Schuyler came to Morristown to visit in 1780.
When Hamilton delivered papers to Dr. Cochran, he met Schuyler for the first time.

Hamilton was soon smitten by Schuyler and wrote her letters stating, “I meet you in every dream, and when I wake I cannot close my eyes for ruminating on your sweetness,” according to pbs.org.
