Scouts from Morris Plains Troop 39 Attend STEM University at Kean Univ

Scott Marvin, Mason Carcich, Michael Clayton Lang, and Julius Annis, scouts from Morris Plains Troop 39 attend STEM University, Dec 12.

Three Boy Scouts from Troop 39 of Morris Plains, were lucky to be among the 50 Boy Scouts and Venturers from across our area to take advantage of STEM University, a one-day program of STEM –related activities held on the campus of Kean University on Saturday, December 12, 2015.

The Scouts who attended participated in a variety of workshops, lectures, and hands-on activities on topics ranging from sun spots, the impact we have on nature, to the math and physics of making projectiles shoot into space. Scouts were lectured by university professionals and were permitted rare access to STEM campus facilities such as the Kean Planetarium and “the cave,” a 3-D virtual environment used to experience scientific research in a new and exciting way.

All the participants received a NOVA Awards guidebook which features program activities incorporating STEM learning with cool scouting activities, and they are now on the path to completing the requirements necessary to earning a STEM patch.
