Severe Thunderstorms Could Hit North Jersey: Here's When

Forecasters predict stormy weather to hit the region throughout the week, with a 'slight' chance of damaging winds Monday night.

NORTH JERSEY — Another week, another storm in North Jersey. The National Weather Service expects bad weather to hit the region Monday night into Tuesday morning — a trend that could continue throughout the week.

The agency expects most of the storms to hit late Monday evening, into the overnight hours. In North Jersey, there's a "slight" risk that some of the thunderstorms produce damaging winds.

Isolated, intense storms are possible, according to the National Weather Service. But officials expect them to be short-lived and/or not widespread.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for Morris County, with scattered severe thunderstorms possible through Monday night.

The trend of stormy weather could continue throughout parts of this upcoming week. Here's the forecast at the Newark Liberty International Airport as of Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Monday night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after midnight. Increasing clouds, with a low around 67. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
  • Tuesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Southeast wind 3 to 7 mph.
  • Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. South wind 6 to 13 mph.
  • Wednesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81.
  • Thursday night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70.
  • Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79.
  • Friday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69.
  • Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 82.
