Slain Morris Plains Woman Complained About Harassment By Shooter: Reports
The Morris Plains Mayor told media outlets Laurel Chasmar complained about harassment before her death by the shooter, an ex-boyfriend.

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — A Morris Plains woman shot dead early Saturday morning had complained about harassment by the shooter, an ex-boyfriend, borough Mayor Frank Druetzler told media outlets.
Laurel R. Chasmar, 28, of Morris Plains was shot and killed outside her Morris Plains apartment early Saturday morning. Hassan Shahid, 32, of Jersey City was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound just over the border into Morris Township. While the Morris County Prosecutor's Office did not explicitly call the deaths a murder-suicide, Druetzler used that term in describing the events.
Druetzler told the Daily Record that Chasmar and Shahid worked together at a Novartis facility and dated for a time, but that Chasmar had told police Shahid was harassing her.

The mayor said Shahid borrowed a car and waited for Chasmar outside of her apartment, according to MorristownGreen. He shot her dead outside of the apartment, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said.
Police heard gunshots and accosted Shahid, but he shot himself dead. Police did not exchange gunfire with Shahid, Druetzler said. Shahid's body was found just over the border into Morris Plains, Knapp said. The shooting was an isolated incident.
