Folk Legend's Son To Play On Morristown Stage

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Folk and rock fans will be getting a blast from the past when A.J. Croce, son of famed singer/songwriter Jim Croce, takes the Morristown stage next month.

The acclaimed "Croce Plays Croce" show will be held at the Mayo Performing Arts Center on Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. A.J. will be honoring his late father by "presenting his own original works and classic covers in a captivating live setting."

Jim Croce, known for hits including "Operator," "Don't Mess Around With Jim," and "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown," is recognized as one of the best songwriters of the 20th century, despite his short-lived career.

At the age of 30, Jim Croce died in a plane crash on September 20, 1973. He was just beginning to experience commercial success when he died.

He has gone on to have one of the most successful posthumous legacies in American music. After his death, "Time in a Bottle" became a posthumous number-one hit in late 1973. Another Croce classic, "I Got A Name," was released one day after the fatal plane crash.

A.J. Croce, who was eight days away from turning two years old when his father died, has spent the last several years continuing his father's legacy.

"Through stories, humor, and remarkable musicianship, A.J. connects audiences to both his father’s iconic body of work and his own evolution as one of today’s most respected artists," a MPAC statement reads.

A.J., while keeping his father's music alive, has also produced ten original studio albums. Throughout his career, he has worked with artists including Willie Nelson, Lenny Kravitz, Earth, Wind and Fire, and B.B. King.
