East Orange, November 26, 2019—Youth Consultation Service (YCS) announced it has received a Major Grant in the amount of $20,000 from The Provident Bank Foundation to support their Institute for Infant and Preschool Mental Health.

YCS was selected to receive the grant based on the groundbreaking work they are doing to assist mothers and babies in underserved communities affected by poverty and social disconnectedness. The YCS Institute provides vital early-intervention designed to strengthen these earliest relationships and develop a healthy foundation for emotional, behavioral, and cognitive development.

“The sense of isolation of parenting a young child and the particular isolation of living in communities plagued by poverty and intergenerational trauma can be overwhelming,” says YCS Institute director, Dayna Zatina Egan. “This generous grant will help us reach more young mothers and provide them with the clinical services necessary to development healthy and secure attachments with their babies.”

The effects of the therapies provided by the Institute can influence the baby’s development over a life time. A strong mother/baby relationship builds a child’s autonomy, influences good emotional control, behavior flexibility and self-esteem.

YCS President and CEO, Tara Augustine, and Dr. Zatina Egan received the check during a presentation by representatives from The Provident Bank and The Provident Bank Foundation at the YCS Institute.

“The Provident Bank Foundation is honored to help further initiatives that are making a difference in the lives of residents in our local area,” said Jane Kurek, Executive Director, The Provident Bank Foundation. “We are pleased to support organizations that contribute to a sense of community and offer a diverse set of programs that make people healthier, happier and safer.”

The goal of the Major Grant is to support organizations that have identified an immediate need in the community and for the individuals they serve. The Provident Bank Foundation’s funding directly supports efforts to enhance the quality of life in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania communities served by Provident Bank through three Funding Priority Areas: Community Enrichment, Education, and Health, Youth & Families.
