1 Dead, 2 Wounded After Attempted Murder-Suicide In Essex County: Authorities

The shooting took place at an apartment building, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A person died and two others were wounded in an attempted murder-suicide at an apartment building in Newark on Sunday morning, authorities say.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a fatal shooting took place on the 700-block of Bergen Street.

One person died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two others were hospitalized with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries, the prosecutor’s office said.

Police in tactical gear responded to the complex around 9:30 a.m. Residents of the building said a gunman barricaded himself inside an apartment on the third-floor and refused to leave for hours, CBS News reported.
