2 Charged In Connection With Fatal Newark Shooting: Prosecutor

The suspects were arrested more than two years after a deadly shooting, Essex County prosecutors said.

NEWARK, NJ — Two Newark men have been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in 2020, authorities announced Wednesday.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Ibn Hill, 22, and Tyquan Zigler, 27, both of Newark, were charged with multiple offenses in connection with the fatal shooting of Jerry Works Jr., 50, of Newark.

“On September 14, 2020, police responded to a report of a shooting on the 100-block of Brenner Street in Newark. Officers located Works in a common hallway of a building suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:18 p.m.”

After an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, Hill was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for Unlawful Purpose. Zigler was charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Both suspects are in custody, prosecutors said.
