2 Dead After Shooting In Newark; No Arrests As Police Probe Continues

A fatal shooting on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Newark claimed two lives, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ – A fatal shooting on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Newark claimed two lives on Saturday, authorities said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety released the following statement about the shooting:

“On March 4 at 5:06 p.m., Newark police responded to a report of shots fired on the 700-block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Police found Sajade A. Nichols, 35, of Carteret, N.J., apparently suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark and pronounced dead at 5:54 p.m. A second victim, an unidentified male, was also found apparently suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:25 p.m.”

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the shooting. No arrests have been made as of Sunday.
