2 Fatalities In Newark: Stabbing Victim Dies, Deadly Assault

Two separate fatalities were reported in Newark on the same day. Here's what happened, authorities say.

NEWARK, NJ -- Two separate fatalities were reported in Newark on Friday, authorities said.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, police were notified about an assault on the 100-block of North Munn Avenue at 7 p.m.

The officers found Amin Abdul-Aziz, 43, of Newark, "suffering from injuries." The nature of those injuries wasn't disclosed in a statement from prosecutors.

Abdul-Aziz was taken to University Hospital in Newark and pronounced dead at 7:48 p.m. An investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made as of Sunday, authorities said.

Newark police responded to a report of a stabbing on the 800-block of South Orange Avenue at 8:29 p.m.

Police found Sharod Gully, 52, of Newark, suffering from apparent stab wounds. He was taken to University Hospital in Newark and pronounced dead at 9:21 p.m.

A police investigation continues, authorities said. No arrests have been made as of Saturday.
