2 Hurt, 29 Relocated After Devastating Home Fire In Newark

It took more than 100 Newark firefighters to combat the three-alarm blaze, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Two people were injured and 29 relocated after a devastating, three-alarm home fire in Newark on Thursday, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to a 2.5-story, wood frame building at 390 Lincoln Avenue around 11:15 a.m. A third alarm was called at 11:26 a.m., with the fire extending to two adjacent residences at 392 and 394 Lincoln Avenue, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

The fire was placed under control at 12:40 p.m. In all, it took more than 100 firefighters to combat the blaze, authorities said.

The Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

A resident of 392 Lincoln Avenue was transported to Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville for treatment of smoke inhalation. In addition, a firefighter suffered burns to his face and was transported to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston for treatment. No other injuries were reported, authorities said.

In total, 21 adults and eight children have been relocated due to the damage.

“I commend our firefighters for their bravery and professionalism in response to this three-alarm fire,” Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said.

“I am grateful that the families affected will be supported through the Newark Office of Emergency Management for relocation services,” he added.
