2023 Opioid Awareness Walk In Essex County: See The Route

The annual event will kick off in Newark and continue through Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Montclair, Verona and Caldwell.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The Essex Health and Wellness Recovery Center will hold its sixth annual Opioid Awareness Walk on Saturday, Oct. 28.

According to a news release from organizers, the event is being held to spread awareness of the danger of opioids and fentanyl. It will kick off in Newark and continue through Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Montclair, Verona and Caldwell.

“We walk to remember those who lost their lives to substance use disorder,” organizers said. “We walk to support the loved ones left behind. We walk to thank those who help us those who struggle with substance use disorder. And we congratulate those who are in recovery and have a second chance at life.”

Want to take a walk on Oct. 28? Here’s what to know, organizers said:

“Our walk will take place on Bloomfield Avenue. It begins at 9 a.m. at Newark School Stadium in Newark. We will walk Bloomfield Avenue to Bloomfield Fire House, then to Glen Ridge Town Hall, then to Montclair Police Department, then to Verona Town Hall, then to 80 Bloomfield Avenue, then to The First Baptist Church 259 Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell at noon for a complimentary lunch and a presentation with music by Hunter Hayes.”

Organizers are seeking vendors to set up tables at the luncheon and along the walk. Sponsors are also needed for t-shirts, lunch, music and ad journal.
