2025 Newark School Board Election: Candidate Forum, Ballot Drawing
This will be the first year that 16 and 17-year-olds will be allowed to vote in the Newark Board of Education election.

NEWARK, NJ — A landmark school election is rapidly approaching in New Jersey’s largest city.
The 2025 Newark School Board Election will take place on Tuesday, April 15. The deadline to register to vote was March 25. Learn more about voting in New Jersey here.
A total of 11 candidates are competing for three seats on the Newark Board of Education (terms last for three years):

Last year, Newark became the first city in New Jersey to lower the voting age to 16 for local school board elections. An estimated 7,000 additional teens in the state’s largest city will now be able to cast a ballot for board of education members.
