2025 Portugal Day Festival In Newark Expected To Draw Big Crowd

The popular festival includes music, food and a parade. Here are the details for this year's celebration in New Jersey's largest city.

NEWARK, NJ — A popular Portugal Day Festival will return to Newark for 2025.

The 28th annual “Dia De Portugal” will take place in the city’s Ironbound District from June 6 to June 8 in Newark. Learn more about this family friendly festival here.

“Experience the vibrant spirit of Portugal in Newark's Ironbound! From the iconic parade along Ferry Street to lively performances at Peter Francisco Park, immerse yourself in the heart of Portuguese-American heritage.”

The Newark Public Safety Department said that several streets will be closed for the annual parade on Sunday, June 8. The parade begins at 3 p.m. and is expected to end at 5 p.m. Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and to plan alternate routes.

The closures will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Ferry Street between Merchant Street and Union Street (Parade Route – Ferry Street from Wilson Avenue to Peter Francisco Park)
  • Wilson Avenue between Merchant Street and Darcy Street (Staging Area – Re-opens at 12:30 p.m.)

Other street closures are planned at multiple locations in connection with the festival on June 7 and June 8, police said.

Coincidentally, the UEFA Nations League final match featuring Portugal versus Spain will take place on Sunday, June 8.
