3 Newark Hospitals Get Latest Safety Grade From Watchdog Group

NEWARK, NJ — Three hospitals in Newark received ratings as part of the latest Hospital Safety Grades report from the Leapfrog Group.

The nonprofit watchdog released its fall 2022 grades for hospitals on Wednesday. The group uses an academic grading scale with five letter grades to score nearly 3,000 hospitals nationwide on more than 30 measures of patient safety. Read more about their methodology here.

In New Jersey, 33 hospitals received an A, 20 hospitals received a B, 14 hospitals received a C and three hospitals received a D grade. No hospital received an F. Read More: NJ Safest Hospitals; Leapfrog Releases Latest Ratings

Three hospitals were graded in Newark: Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Saint Michael's Medical Center, and University Hospital.

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center got a B grade for the fall. Previous grades include:

• Fall 2020 – A

• Fall 2019 – A
• Spring 2019 – A

Saint Michael's Medical Center got an A grade for the fall. Previous grades include:

University Hospital got a C grade for the fall. Previous grades include:

• Spring 2022 – C
