4 Arrests In Newark As City’s Summer Crime Fighting Campaign Continues
Each suspect was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, Newark police said.
NEWARK, NJ — Four more suspects have been arrested as part of Newark’s summer crime reduction initiative for 2023, authorities recently announced.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, four people were arrested in the past two weeks:
- Raafiq J. Everson, 25, of East Orange, faces charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and false swearing for an incident that occurred on July 3, 2023, in the area of Orange Street and Myrtle Avenue.
- Kevin Swinton, 27, of Newark, faces charges of robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on April 4, 2023, at 1st Street and Orange Street.
- Clifton Johnson, 58, of Newark, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession in connection with a shooting that occurred on July 4, 2023, in the 300 block of South 8th Street.
- Victor Lopez, 34, of Newark, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and criminal mischief for an incident that occurred on June 23, 2023, in the 600 block of Summer Avenue.
