4 Killed In Fiery Newark Crash Saturday Morning: Officials
A semi truck and two cars collided on Route 27 early Saturday morning. A resulting fire killed four people, Essex County officials said.
NEWARK, NJ — Four people died in a fire after a semi truck and two cars collided Saturday morning in Newark, local officials said.
The crash happened at around 4:22 a.m. Saturday in the 800 block of Route 27 (Frelinghuysen Avenue), according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Interim Newark Public Safety Director Raul Malave.
The tractor trailer, a Chevrolet Malibu, and a Chrysler 300 were all involved in the crash, officials said. The driver and three passengers in the Malibu were pronounced dead at the scene at 6:11 a.m., according to a news release.

The driver of the Chrysler was taken to the hospital in critical, but stable condition, according to officials.
The victims' names have not yet been released. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating.
