$5K Reward Offered To Catch Essex County Man’s Killer

Kenneth Murphy Jr. was the victim of a "brutal" blunt force trauma assault in Essex County, police say.

NEWARK, NJ — The Essex County Sheriff’s Crimestoppers Program is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the murder of Kenneth Murphy Jr., 62, of Newark, authorities say.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Murphy was the victim of a “brutal assault” that occurred in the area of Bergen Street and Renner Avenue on Nov. 5, 2015. During the attack, Murphy sustained severe injuries and was later transported to University Hospital, where he died at 4:12 p.m. on Nov. 10.

The cause of death was “blunt force trauma,” prosecutors said.
