6 Families Displaced After Fire At Newark Residential Building
An investigation into the cause of the blaze continues, Newark authorities said.
NEWARK, NJ — Six families were relocated after a fire tore through a three-story residential building in Newark on Monday, authorities said.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, firefighters responded to a multi-family home at 729 South 13th Street at 10:29 a.m.
Firefighters encountered flames coming from a basement window. A second alarm was called at 10:45 a.m. after the fire extended to the top floor of the building, authorities said.

Firefighters placed the blaze under control at 11:30 a.m. No injuries were reported, authorities said.
Mutual aid was provided by the Irvington Fire Department, the Maplewood Fire Department, and the West Essex Fire Department.

The Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit is investigating the cause and origin of the fire, officials said. No additional information was immediately available.
