62-Year-Old Man Dies In Newark Shooting, Police Investigation Continues
Police received a 911 call about a man with a gunshot wound outside a building on Lexington Street at 3:38 a.m.
NEWARK, NJ — A police investigation continues into a fatal shooting that took place in Newark last weekend, authorities say.
Police received a 911 call about a man with a gunshot wound outside a building on Lexington Street at 3:38 a.m. on Saturday, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.
Officers found the victim – later identified as Jeffrey Washington, 62, of Camden – suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Emergency responders transported Washington to University Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 5:15 a.m.
