70 Newark Firefighters Battle Fairmount Avenue Blaze (VIDEO)

Newark Officials: 2 adults and 4 children were taken to area hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation.

NEWARK, NJ — A fire torched a two-story residential building on Fairmount Avenue early Thursday morning in Newark. Emergency responders transported two adults and four children to area hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation due to the blaze, which summoned more than 70 firefighters to the scene, authorities said.

The fire began at 364 Fairmount Avenue around 11:30 p.m. and was put under control around 2:57 a.m., according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

No firefighter injuries were reported. The Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit is investigating the cause and origin of the fire, authorities said.
