94 Newlyweds Say ‘I Do’ In Newark For Valentine’s Day 2018
For 15 years in a row, dozens of Newark residents have gotten married on Valentine's Day at the Newark Municipal Court.

NEWARK, NJ — A beloved tradition will continue for the 15th year in Newark on Wednesday, when dozens of local couples tie the knot at the Newark Municipal Court for Valentine’s Day 2018.
City and municipal court officials announced that the holiday tradition – which began in 2002 when 100 couples got hitched – will continue this year with 47 weddings at the Green Street facility from noon to 3 p.m.
Reservations and marriage license applications for the event have to be made in advance. On the day of their weddings, judges are rotated and perform each ceremony individually. Interpreters re available to assist couples that speak Spanish and Portuguese. Couples must have a valid marriage license and two witnesses to get married.

“We are proud to continue this annual tradition of spreading marital love and joy on St. Valentine’s Day,” Mayor Ras Baraka said. “I’m proud of how the Municipal Court arranges this annual event, and send my best wishes to all the couples being united in matrimony on their special day. Strong families make for a stronger Newark.”

In addition to marriage licenses, the Newark Municipal Court handles more than 500,000 cases each year, including traffic, housing code enforcement, sanitation, quality-of-life and minor criminal offenses.
