Teen May Be Tried As Adult After Fatal Newark Shooting

A teen was charged with murder after allegedly shooting a 58-year-old man in Newark. Prosecutors may waive the case to adult court.

NEWARK, NJ — A 16-year-old juvenile has been accused of fatally shooting a 58-year-old man in Newark earlier this month, authorities announced Thursday.

Police aren’t releasing the name of the male juvenile, who allegedly shot Craig Dorrah, 58, around 2 p.m. on Aug. 9 on Crane Street, according to a joint statement from Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.

Prosecutors intend to review the case to determine if the matter can be waived to adult court, authorities said.

The juvenile has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is currently being held at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center in Newark.
