Allegedly Drunken Car Renter Fails To Make It Past Exit Barrier: Newark Airport
An allegedly intoxicated New Jersey man rented a car at Newark Airport but never made it past the exit barrier, police say.
Newark, NJ - Authorities arrested a Califon man who allegedly crashed a 2016 Nissan into the exit barrier of the National Car Rental inside Newark Airport on Friday.
According to the Port Authority of NY/NJ, witnesses reported seeing Jeffery D. Black drive into the exit barrier, crumpling the front end of his car in the impact.
When Port Authority police arrived on the scene, they allegedly saw an uninjured Black standing outside the car, “unsteady on his feet,” swaying and smelling of alcohol.

Officers reported that Black admitted he had been drinking prior to the crash.
According to police, Black failed a field sobriety test, and an Alcotest registered at more than twice the legal limit.

Police arrested Black and charged him with DWI, and towed the damaged Nissan back to the car rental company.
