Ambulance Carjacked Near Hospital In Essex County, Police Say
Two workers were sitting in the ambulance when a man approached them. Here's what happened next, authorities say.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Someone carjacked an ambulance near a hospital in Essex County early Thursday morning, authorities say.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers responded to Saint Michael's Medical Center on the 100-block of Central Avenue at 2:41 a.m. after getting a call about a carjacked ambulance.
Police said two workers were sitting in the parked ambulance when a man approached them and took the vehicle.

The ambulance was eventually recovered on the 200-block of Central Avenue. A cell phone was missing from the vehicle.
No injuries were reported, authorities said.

After the carjacking, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) police found and detained a suspect that matched the carjacker’s description, authorities said.
A police investigation continues, authorities said Thursday.
