In recognition of Menstrual Health Awareness Month, The Flow Initiative, a national leader in the fight to end period poverty, today announced a major milestone: the distribution of more than 2 million menstrual health products to individuals and communities in need across the United States and globally.
This milestone comes at a critical moment. Menstrual Health Awareness Month brings national attention to the barriers millions continue to face in accessing basic menstrual care, reinforcing the urgency of sustained action across policy, education, and community engagement.
This achievement reflects the organization’s continued commitment to ensuring that no one is denied access to essential menstrual care. Through a combination of grassroots distribution, policy advocacy, and education, The Flow Initiative continues to address the systemic barriers that prevent equitable access to menstrual products.
Period poverty remains a pressing public health and economic issue. In the United States, nearly 1 in 4 students have struggled to afford period products, and globally, an estimated 500 million people lack access to adequate menstrual health resources. These gaps impact education, workforce participation, and overall well-being, reinforcing cycles of inequality.
Since its founding, The Flow Initiative has operated at the intersection of advocacy and action, driving meaningful progress through legislative wins, community partnerships, and direct distribution efforts.
“This milestone is a testament to what’s possible when grassroots advocacy meets policy
change. We have seen firsthand
how legislation can create sustainable access to menstrual products in schools and public
spaces. Passing bills is only the beginning. Implementation, accountability, and continued
collaboration with communities are what ensure this work endures,” said Eiko La Boria, Founder and CEO of The Flow Initiative. “This work also happens beyond policy—through partnerships that mobilize period product donations, long nights spent packaging supplies, and countless hours on the road ensuring those resources reach the communities that need them most; it is not easy, but it is deeply rewarding. Our mission remains clear. We will continue to build systems that center dignity, access, and long-term impact for all."
The organization’s growth has been fueled by strong partnerships across the private and public sectors, enabling it to scale its reach and deepen its impact.
“Two million products distributed is a reflection of the partners who have shown up with us and stayed committed to the work,” said Sabrina Browne, Partner at The Flow Initiative. “This milestone underscores the power of partnership. By working alongside brands, corporations, and community organizations, we are able to meet people where they are and get products directly into the hands of those who need them most. This is how we turn awareness into action and impact into lasting change.”
To date, The Flow Initiative has passed and advanced eight menstrual health bills, educated more than 40,000 students, and built a national network of partners committed to advancing menstrual equity. Its work continues to shape the broader conversation around menstrual health as both a human rights issue and a critical component of public health.
As the organization looks ahead, it remains focused on expanding access, strengthening policy implementation, and continuing to mobilize communities nationwide. Learn more and get involved at https://theflowinitiativefoundation.org/
