NEWARK, NJ — A runoff election took place in the city’s South Ward between incumbent Patrick Council and challenger Asia Norton on Tuesday.
Newark voters went to the polls on May 12 to elect a mayor and several city council members. In the South Ward race, Council got about 46 percent of the votes and Norton – the next-highest vote-getter – got about 23 percent. Since neither candidate received a majority, a runoff election was called to decide the winner.
With 100 percent of districts reported, it appears that Council has successfully defended his seat.
