Website Gives Newark Parents A Deep Dive Into School Performance Data

“Parents shouldn't have to spend hours searching through state reports to understand how their child's school is performing.”

NEWARK, NJ — Newark parents who are having trouble slogging through Excel sheets and dense websites in an attempt to learn how their child’s school is performing recently got a helpful new tool to help them sort through the numbers.

The New Jersey Children's Foundation (NJCF) recently updated its data explorer for the city, which can be seen online here.

The website compiles a treasure trove of local information about Newark’s schools, including state testing results and statistics from the New Jersey Department of Education.

Some of the available data includes math and literacy performance, whether enrollment is growing or shrinking, and how students are progressing toward graduation and college readiness. The data explorer also provides more context about the students each school serves, including enrollment, economic disadvantage, multilingual learners and special education populations.

“Parents shouldn't have to spend hours searching through state reports to understand how their child's school is performing,” said Barbara Martinez, CEO of the New Jersey Children's Foundation.

“This tool allows families to compare school data, track important trends and make informed decisions using clear, accessible information,” Martinez said. “We want every Newark family to have access to the facts they need to advocate for their children and support student success.”
