NEWARK, NJ — Several New Jersey Devils players and draft picks recently took some time to visit children at a hospital in Newark – helping one youth to ring the bell on a final cancer treatment.
The pro hockey players sparked some big smiles at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey when they visited on June 30.
Players mingled with pediatric patients and give them some words of encouragement. They also got a chance to make them some smoothies at the hospital’s Wellness Center.
A highlight of the visit came when the hockey stars joined 5-year-old Ben Coelho of Elizabeth and his pediatric oncology team as the beaming youth rang a ceremonial bell to mark his final cancer treatment.
