The Rev. M. William Howard Jr., the pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Newark, was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Newark Education Trust, the city’s local education fund.
“We are honored to have Rev. Howard on our board,” said Ross Danis, the executive director of the Newark Education Trust. “His knowledge and experience will help ensure that all of Newark’s children receive a quality public education.”
The Rev. Howard was named the pastor of Bethany in 2000 after serving as president of the New York Theological Seminary, a graduate school of theological education devoted to leadership development for church workers in the New York metropolitan region.

Shortly after joining the church, the Reverend founded Bethany Cares, Inc., a community development corporation that enhances the church’s outreach capacity. He now directs services for families and young people from all walks of life, including those who are incarcerated.
