Annual Church Feast In Newark Will Celebrate Italian-American Culture
Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Newark will hold its 135th annual feast on the weekend of July 11 to July 13.

NEWARK, NJ — Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Newark will hold its 135th annual feast on the weekend of July 11 to July 13 in front of the church at 259 Oliver Street.
The local event has been held in celebration of Italian-American religion and culture since 1890.

“The feast kicks off Friday evening, July 11 with a healing mass led by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio at 7 p.m. Also on Friday, Tommy Vincent will provide musical entertainment. On Saturday, the feast will feature the lovely voice of Vanessa Racci. On Sunday, July 13, a solemn high mass will be held at 3 p.m., followed by a grand procession. On the feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Wednesday, July 16, a Solemn High Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m., followed by a candlelight procession.”
“Each year, we come together as a community to celebrate this important feast day for Italian- Americans,” said Eric Lavin, pastoral associate for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
“It's a cherished time when we honor the Blessed Mother, pray for our loved ones who have passed, and reflect on those who taught us our faith and showed us the richness of our heritage,” Lavin said.
