Armed Man Robs 2 Women In Newark; Police Search For Suspect

Newark police are searching for a man who robbed two women in the city this week, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for a man who robbed two women in the city this week, authorities announced Thursday evening.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the first incident took place on Wednesday. Officers responded to the 500-block of Orange Street at 3:23 p.m. after getting a call about an armed robbery.

The victim told officers that a man tried to snatch her purse. When she resisted, he brandished a handgun and she handed the purse over. The man then fled westbound on Orange Street towards East Orange, police said.

The same man also allegedly robbed another woman at gunpoint at 12:15 a.m. on Thursday at Roseville Avenue near Orange Street. This time, he was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and fled into East Orange, first using a bicycle, then on foot.

Police recovered the bicycle and weapon in that incident, authorities said.

Police said the suspect is 5 feet 8 inches and thin-built, with a dark skin complexion, goatee, and dread locs or braids in his hair. He was wearing a yellow-colored shirt with a dinosaur logo on the front, black sweatpants with stripes on the sides, and black and gray sneakers.
