Newark Road Closed, Person With Gun Reported On Scene: Police

Newark authorities closed a section of Bergen Street after receiving a report of a person with a firearm in the area.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark authorities closed a section of Bergen Street on Wednesday amid reports of a person with a firearm. Multiple news reports stated that shots were fired and a suspect wounded.

According to the Newark Police Department, officers received a report of an “armed person” near Bergen Street and Lyons Avenue. The roadway was closed on Bergen Street between Watson and Chancellor due to a joint investigation between the Newark Police Division and Essex County Sheriff’s Office, authorities stated at 4:45 p.m.

A Newark police emergency response team has determined that there is “no peril to the community," authorities said.
