Arrest Made In Fatal Newark Shooting; Police Investigation Continues
A 21-year-old Newark resident has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot a fellow Brick City resident to death, authorities said.
NEWARK, NJ — A 21-year-old Newark resident has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot a fellow Brick City resident to death last month, authorities announced Wednesday.
Zyion A. Williams-Jones, who also has an address in Phillipsburg, was arrested in connection with the Sept. 2 shooting of Darryl Craft, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.
Newark police officers responded to of Bergen Street and Chadwick Avenue in Newark around midnight after getting a report about gunshots in the area. Officers found Craft – a Newark resident – suffering from gunshot wounds near 139 Chadwick Avenue.

Craft was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:54 a.m.
An investigation by detectives from the prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, identified Williams-Jones as a suspect in the shooting. He was arrested Monday in Phillipsburg, authorities said.

Williams-Jones was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility pending his next court appearance.
