Big Rig Driver Arrested With Stolen Truck At Goethals Bridge

Police stopped the man for having improper license plates and discovered the truck was reported stolen.

Port Authority police arrested a Georgia man for trying to drive a stolen tractor trailer across the Goethals Bridge toll plaza on Wednesday morning.

Police stopped Garfield Barrows, 57, of Henry County, Georgia, around 9 a.m. for having improper license plates at the toll plaza on the New York side of the Goethals Bridge.

After conducting a credentials check through teletype, officers discovered that Barrows’ driver’s license has been suspended twice, and that the unregistered and uninsured tractor trailer was reported stolen from PMK Trucking in Carteret on May 30.

After impounding the vehicle and arresting Barrows, police charged him with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Driving with a Suspended License.
