The campus is closed Monday because the Newark fire on Sunday left it without electricity, according to News12.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose told NJ.com that workers reported a possible electrical fire in the sub-basement of a building.

Officials say the building was evacuated and the fire was extinguished.

Classes were cancelled Monday to let crews continue to air out the main building of ECC's University Heights section in Newark, off Market Street. The fire in a sub-basement of the building also knocked out power, according to nj.com.

The fire broke out Sunday at 8 a.m. in a building of University Avenue, overcoming 12 fire department veterans and one probationary officer who graduated from the fire academy last month. The fire remained under investigation, according to the report.
