UPDATED: Newark Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Buffalo

The Alaska Airlines plane, heading to Seattle from Newark, landed in Buffalo just after 8 a.m. Monday.

An Alaska Airlines flight that departed Newark Monday morning made an emergency landing in Buffalo just after 8 a.m., when a credit card reader caught fire in the galley of the plane.

Alaska Airlines flight 17 was headed to Seattle International Airport but was diverted to Buffalo, where it landed at 8:07 a.m.

News 4 in Buffalo reported that the plane landed safely and the approximately 190 people on board were not injured.

A Niagra Frontier Transportation Authority spokesman told NBC Philadelphia that the incident started when a credit card reader caught fire.

The planes’ passengers were taken to the terminal, offered medical assistance and complimentary food, and continued their flight to Seattle at 4 p.m., NBC reported.
