Tractor Trailer Fire Causes Traffic Delays Near Newark Airport

The fire on U.S. Routes 1 and 9 sent a black cloud of smoke into the air.

A tractor trailer fire caused rush hour traffic on U.S. Routes 1 and 9 and sent a black cloud of smoke into the air that could be seen from Newark Airport.

The fire took place around 5 p.m. on the southbound express lane at Newark Liberty International Airport, according to NJ511.

Newark Fire Department spokesman Capt. John Brown told Patch that the fire took place in the tractor trailer’s cab, which was unoccupied at the time.

There were no reported injuries, Brown said.
