Bus Bursts Into Flames On NJ Turnpike After Striking Pothole
The NJ Transit was engulfed in flames as passengers were evacuated.
NEWARK, NJ — A NJ Transit bus with more than two dozen passengers aboard caught fire Tuesday evening on the New Jersey Turnpike. Nobody was injured, authorities said.
A bus on the 114 line was traveling northbound from Bridgewater to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York around 5:30 p.m., when the vehicle experienced a tire blowout near exit 14 in Newark, according to NJ Transit.
Officials said 25 riders were able to exit without injury. Newark firefighters then arrived at the scene and extinguished the fiery bus.

Passengers told ABC News that the bus struck a pothole prior to the blowout. Video footage shows the vehicle in flames, with thick smoke billowing upwards as cars pass by on the highway.
The passengers were put on another bus after the incident, NJ Transit officials said.

New Jersey state police are investigating the incident.
