Bystander Stabbed While Trying To Stop Robbery In Newark, Police Say
Two men with knives allegedly approached a couple and tried to go through their pockets. Here's what happened next, authorities say.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Two people were robbed at knifepoint in Newark last week, and a bystander who tried to intervene was stabbed, authorities say.
The robbery took place at 3:27 a.m. on the 100-block of Walnut Street on March 22, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.
Two men with knives allegedly approached a couple – a man and a woman – and tried to rifle through their pockets. When a male bystander tried to stop the assault, one of the suspects stabbed him, police said.

The two robbery suspects then fled the scene eastbound on Walnut Street.
Police said the suspects wore black clothing and ski masks. One suspect is about 6 feet and has facial hair, and the other is about 5 feet 7 inches and has a thin build.

Police released surveillance video footage and photos of the two suspects (see below).
