Car Hits, Kills 41-Year-Old Pedestrian In Newark On Labor Day
A vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian as he was crossing a busy intersection in Newark on Labor Day, authorities said.
NEWARK, NJ — A vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian as he was crossing a busy intersection in Newark on Labor Day, authorities said.
Anchieta DeSouza-Lima, 41, of Newark, was crossing the intersection of McCarter Highway and Emmet Street on Monday at 2:54 a.m., when a car hit him, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.
DeSouza-Lima was taken to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 3:11 a.m.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Scene Investigative Bureau and Newark police detectives are investigating DeSouza-Lima’s death. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday.
