Car Hits, Kills 5-Year-Old In Newark; 2 Family Members Hospitalized

A "vehicle-pedestrian collision" resulted in the death of a young girl in Newark, authorities said. Her father and sister were hospitalized.

NEWARK, NJ — A “vehicle-pedestrian collision” caused the death of a 5-year-old girl in Newark on Tuesday evening, authorities said.

The collision also injured her father and sister, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, which released the following statement on Wednesday:

“On January 31, at 6:44 p.m., Newark police notified the Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau of a vehicle-pedestrian collision at the intersection of 6th Avenue and North 9th Street. The girl was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m. Her father and younger sister were taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

No arrests have been made as of Wednesday morning. An investigation continues, prosecutors said.
