Car Repossessed In West Orange, Stolen From Lot In Newark: Police

The owner of a company in Newark repossessed a vehicle in West Orange. It was stolen the next day, police said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The owner of a company in Newark recently repossessed a vehicle in West Orange, only to have it stolen the next day, police announced Tuesday.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, a Lexus GS was repossessed on June 3 and stolen on June 4. Here’s what happened, authorities said:

“Police responded to the incident, which occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. from a business lot on Whitney Street in Newark. The owner of the business, Commercial Service Corporation, repossessed a black 2018 Lexus GS from 22 Central Avenue in West Orange on June 3, 2023. The vehicle, bearing New Jersey registration Z80PBU, was then transported to the company’s business lot on Whitney Street. A day later, on June 4, a male with braided hair was captured on surveillance video jumping over a wall adjacent to the business and entering the property.”

“The man was wearing black-colored pants and a black sweatshirt with a hood that had ‘Anti-Social Club’ written on the back of the sweatshirt. He entered the Lexus, then waited inside until employees arrived at 6:45 a.m. When they opened the gates, the man sped off in the vehicle.”
