Carjacked Vehicle Crashes Into Newark Bar, Pins 2 Pedestrians: Police

A car crashed into a bar, pinning two pedestrians against the building and bursting into flames. The driver fled the scene, police said.

NEWARK, NJ — A stolen car crashed into a bar in Newark last weekend, pinning two pedestrians against the building and bursting into flames as the driver fled the scene, authorities said.

The vehicle involved in the crash was carjacked at South 12th Street and 15th Avenue late Saturday night, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Shortly afterwards at 11:59 p.m., Newark police officers received a call about a vehicle that struck a building at South 12th Avenue and South Orange Avenue. Officers arrived to find two adults – a woman and a man – pinned against the building.

Authorities evacuated the bar after the vehicle caught fire, police said.

Emergency responders transported both pedestrians to University Hospital. The woman is reportedly in critical condition, and the man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
