CBGB Will Be Reborn As Newark Airport Restaurant: Report

The legendary New York City rock club, infamous for its punk roots, may ironically be reborn as a restaurant at Newark Airport.

Prepare for the possible triumphant return of legendary punk rock venue CBGB… as a restaurant.

According to reports, the iconic New York City venue – which once hosted acts such as the Ramones, Patti Smith and the Talking Heads – will be making a return as a restaurant located in Newark Airport.

The unconfirmed rumors began with a post on GrubStreet.com last year, which stated:

“Somehow, Harold Moore hooked up with the lamented CBGB and will serve ‘American fare in a fun environment recalling the legendary music venue.’”

Then on Monday, WFMU posted a highly recirculated photo of the former rock club with the declaration that “CBGB’s [is] Reopening!”

The menu apparently features standard pub cuisine such as burgers, chicken wings and sandwiches, according to WFMU’s post.

The current owner of all things CBGB declined to comment on the venture, but all CBGB trademarks have been assigned to a holding company, Gothamist.com reported.
