The Chambers Family Carousel in Newark’s Military Park is now open

The carousel will be open seven days a week to area families

The Chambers Family Carousel in Newark’s Military Park is now open.

The Carousel is open Monday - Saturday from 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Tickets cost just $2 per ride.

The park is also offering Carousel Ride Cards: 14 rides for just $20. Ride cards can be purchased at the Chambers Family Carousel or by contacting carousel@militarypark.com.

The park is also making the carousel available for birthday parties.

The carousel, a gift from New Jersey businessman and philanthropist Ray Chambers and his family, features 16 horses, and was designed to reflect the history of the city—each horse pays tribute to an important horse in Newark history.

The Military Park carousel was built by Carousels and Carvings in Marion, OH. Thornton Tomasetti of Newark, which offers engineering services to clients worldwide, provided pro-bono consulting services.

The debut of the carousel is the newest addition to Military park, which features daily programming and events attracting Newark residents and people who work near the park to enjoy the magnificent green space.

The park also features BURG: Burgers & Taps, a casual restaurant owned by celebrated chef/restaurateur Chris Siversen and his business partner, Marc Haskell.

Military Park, which dates to 1667, was redeveloped and restored in 2014 by Biederman Redevelopment Ventures. In addition to the daily programming/events, Military Park new provides clean restrooms, and free Wi-Fi.
