Cold Snap Expected In Newark; City Issues ‘Code Blue’ Alert
The latest "Code Blue" in Newark begins Friday and will last until Monday. Here is a list of local homeless shelters.
NEWARK, NJ — With the weather expected to get dangerously cold in Newark – yet again – local officials have issued a “Code Blue” alert for vulnerable people living in the city, including people experiencing homelessness.
Code Blue alerts are called when temperatures reach 25 degrees or lower without precipitation, 32 degrees with precipitation, or when there is a wind chill factor of zero degrees.

The latest Code Blue in Newark begins Friday and will last until Monday.
“Over this four-day period, temperatures are expected to drop to a low of 16 degrees with a wind chill factor dropping into the single digits as low as 8 degrees with possible snow and rain,” officials said.

There are emergency shelters operating during the extreme cold weather. For more information about sheltering services, contact the shelters listed below or the Office of Homeless Services at: (973) 877-9481, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
