New Jersey Teens Charged With Thanksgiving Murder In Newark

Authorities charged two teenage suspects with murdering an Essex County woman during an apparent carjacking on Thanksgiving.

Authorities have charged two teenage suspects with murdering an Essex County woman during an apparent carjacking on Thanksgiving in Newark. Police also charged a third male suspect with eluding after apprehending the teens on Friday after a short car chase, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office stated.

The fatal shooting happened shortly before 11 p.m. when Newark officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South 20th Street in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The assailants then fled in the victim's 2015 Kia Sorrento, prosecutors said.

Arriving Newark Police Department officers located Sharie Henry, 40, of Newark, at the scene. Emergency responders transported Henry to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:28 p.m.

Henry had just enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner with family and was returning to her vehicle with her young nephew when the fatal shooting took place, RLS Media reported.

On Friday, patrol officers from the Newark Police Department spotted two adults and a juvenile inside Henry’s car. The officers attempted to stop the Kia, but the driver refused to stop, police said.

After a short car chase, police apprehended the vehicle’s occupants, Supreme A. Allah Jr., 18, of Newark, Antonio L. Torres, 20, of Newark, and a 14-year-old juvenile male who was not identified due to his age.

Allah Jr. and the 14-year-old were charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, carjacking, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and conspiracy to commit murder, prosecutors said.

Torres, who was driving the Kia at the time of the trio’s arrest, was charged with eluding the police.

Allah and Torres are being lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility pending an appearance in Essex County Central Judicial Processing Court. The juvenile is being lodged in the Essex County Youth Detention Facility, prosecutors said.
