Cops Find Lost Dog In Blizzard Near Lincoln Tunnel

Port Authority police officers found and rescued a five-year-old Terrier Hound who ran away in a blizzard.

Port Authority police officers found and rescued a five-year-old Terrier Hound who ran away from the Animal Haven shelter on Tuesday, just after blizzard dumped several inches of snow in the area, authorities say.

According to the Port Authority of NY/NJ, a volunteer at Animal Haven was walking “Pandy” when something spooked the pooch, causing her to run away. The volunteer tried to stop Pandy – who was allegedly rescued from the animal food trade in Thailand - but the dog continued to run and gave them the slip.

Luckily, a trio of Port Authority officers spotted the runaway pooch around 4:30 p.m. near the mouth of the Manhattan side of the Lincoln Tunnel, about 40 blocks from where she began her journey, authorities said.

Officers reunited Pandy with the shelter’s staff around 7 p.m. after identifying the dog’s owners via her microchip.

“Animal Haven is beyond grateful to the Port Authority Police Department for their quick action with Pandy,” said Tiffany Lacey, Executive Director, Animal Haven. “We were all devastated and losing hope but with the PAPD’s quick action, she was saved. She had run over 40 blocks in the snow and ice in just under an hour. Her paws were bloodied from the running. But with a cold compress, a warm bed, her toy bunny and whole lot of love, she was able to sleep soundly in her warm bed. We can’t thank the police enough.”
