Cops Make 'Harry Potter' Heroin Bust In Essex County

Police recovered the eponymously marked glassine envelopes from a Newark apartment alongside a loaded gun, cocaine and packaging materials.

Detectives with the Essex County Sheriff’s Office made a drug bust at a Newark apartment on Thursday afternoon, recovering heroin, 33 grams of cocaine and a loaded .357 Smith and Wesson revolver.

The 44 glassine envelopes of heroin were branded with a stamp reading “Harry Potter” in green ink, according to authorities.

When detectives made a forced entry into the apartment, the resident – 20-year-old Alhaddudin Powell Thompson – allegedly threw a plastic bag containing the items out of his kitchen window.

Police recovered the bag soon afterwards, the release stated.

Two bottles of prescription codeine syrup, a digital scale, razor blades, vials, plastic bags and other drug processing and packaging paraphernalia were found in the apartment.

Powell Thompson was charged with three counts each of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS within 1000 feet of Bethel Christian Academy and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of Phillips Park.

He was further charged with the unlawful possession of a weapon while committing a narcotics crime, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining fortified premises, police stated.
